How to send parcels with an sending code

Sending parcels is now even easier. OmaPosti users can send parcels with a Helposti-code from any Posti parcel locker.

The Helposti code is a six-character sending code that allows you to send a parcel without a separate address label. Write the Helposti code on the parcel and take it to the nearest parcel locker or service point. With the code, the bar code required for mailing is generated for the parcel.

How and where can you drop off a parcel?

When you have a Helposti code for your parcel, you can choose one of three methods. You can find detailed instructions for each option on this page.

a) Reserve a locker at a parcel machine

Make use of one of our many parcel machines. Reserve a locker in the OmaPosti app and place your parcel in the locker.

b) Take it to a self-service point

Use one of our new self-service points. There you can print the shipping label yourself on site and leave the parcel for delivery.

c) Take it to a service desk

Choose one of our staffed service points and handle your parcel at the counter.

Packaging instructions

When you pack your item according to our tips, it will withstand transport and arrive on time.

  • Write the sending code clearly Write the code in a visible place on the parcel with a waterproof marker, for example. We recommend that the text is at least 3 cm high. Also write the same code on a piece of paper and put it inside the parcel. Add also name pf the sender.

  • Hide old markings If you are using recycled packaging materials, remove or cover old address information, bar codes, previous sending codes and other markings, as these may complicate the delivery.

  • Choose a strong enough package Use a sturdy box or other durable material. A plastic bag will not protect the contents during transport.

  • Select the right size The parcel must be large enough and have a clear shape. Avoid packages that are too small or round and packages with protruding parts. The minimum dimensions are 1 × 15 × 15 cm, as parcels that are too small can get lost. Small items such as jewelry should first be wrapped in paper and then placed in a larger parcel.

  • Protect the contents carefully Fill the empty spaces with paper or plastic to make sure that the goods cannot move. Moving contents may be damaged during transport. Close the parcel carefully with wide tape, for example, and reinforce the seams and edges in particular.

  • Avoid materials to which the sticker will not adhere Delivery stickers do not adhere to fabric or masking tape. Use cardboard or plastic that the stickers adhere to securely.

  • Use a clean and undamaged package If you are reusing a product package, make sure that it is clean and odorless. If necessary, protect the contents of the item with a plastic bag.

  • Pack sensibly Do not pack too tightly or use too much tape. It must be easy to open the parcel without damaging the contents. A well-packaged item is also easy to open.

Sending from self-service point

The Posti self-service point is a new way to send parcels. You can print the shipping label yourself and leave the parcel for Posti to deliver.

1. How to find the Helposti code

  • You can find the Helposti code and its corresponding QR code by opening your parcel details in the OmaPosti app.

  • Your parcel will appear in OmaPosti as soon as we receive advance information about it.

  • If you have sold a product on a peer‑to‑peer marketplace, you will receive the Helposti code directly from there (for example under the name "shipping code" or "delivery code").

  • You will also receive the Helposti code by email from us.

2. Pack the parcel

  • Pack the parcel according to the instructions. Write the Helposti code and your name on the parcel.

3. Go to the self-service point

  • Enter the Helposti code on the label self-service point’s screen. You can also scan the QR code. The scanner is located below the screen.

4. Provide additional information if needed

  • If you are sending a Small Parcel, also enter your postal code. Use the same postal code that you have provided in the parcel details. We ask for this for security reasons.

5. Confirm the information

  • Check that all information is correct before proceeding.

  • Attach the label and leave the parcel

  • Attach the printed label to the parcel so that it does not wrinkle or extend over the edges. Leave the parcel in the designated area for outgoing Posti parcels.

  • Tracking information will update once a Posti employee has registered it.

Send from a parcel locker with a Helposti code

Finding the Helposti code: If you sell the product on a resale platform, you will get the code directly from there.

1. Prepare the parcel

  • Pack the item and write the Helposti code and your own name on the parcel according to the instructions. No other address information is needed.

2. Select a parcel locker and a locker in the OmaPosti application

  • Go to the parcel's details and choose a parcel locker as the sending location.

  • The application shows the nearest parcel lockers, and you can also search for parcel lockers by postal code.

  • Choose the locker based on the size of the parcel (S, M, L or XL).

  • If the parcel locker requires a reservation, you can make it directly in the application. Choose the drop-off point and make a one-hour reservation for the locker. If the parcel locker has a touchscreen, no reservation is needed. Go to the parcel locker and follow the instructions on the touchscreen.

3. Check the reservation and take the parcel to the parcel locker

  • The confirmation shows the last drop-off time, the locker number and the opening code.

  • Open the locker as instructed, put the parcel in and close the door.

4. Mark the parcel as dropped off in the application and track its journey in OmaPosti If you need more time or want to change your reservation

  • You can extend the reservation time by one hour. The extension can be made only once.

  • If the reservation ends or you cancel it three times, you can take the parcel to a Posti service point or use a touchscreen parcel locker which doesn't require a reservation.

  • If you reserved the wrong locker size, cancel the reservation and make a new one for a locker of the right size.

  • If you notice that the parcel doesn't fit in the locker when you open it, you cannot reserve a new locker in the same parcel locker. In that case, take the parcel to a Posti service point. Good to know:

  • If you enter your code wrong, the keypad will lock for five minutes after three failed attempts.

  • If you still can’t open the locker after three attempts, our customer service will be happy to help. Read more about Posti Parcel Lockers

Send from a service point with a Helposti code or a QR code

Send parcels easily with a Helposti code and a QR code. The Helposti code is sufficient for sending, but the QR code speeds up the process at the service point. 1. Finding the Helposti code and the QR code Once the item is registered in Posti’s system, it appears automatically in OmaPosti. When you open the item information, you can see both the Helposti code and the QR code. You will also receive the codes by email, but OmaPosti is the fastest way to access them when you need them. 2. Packing the item Pack the item according to the instructions and write the Helposti code and your own name on the parcel. 3. Take the parcel to a service point Deliver the parcel to the service point of your choice. You can find the nearest service point in our service point search. 4. Show the QR code at the service point At the service point, all you need to do is show the QR code from the OmaPosti application. The code is scanned on site, which speeds up the process. If you wish, you can also send the parcel without a QR code by using the Helposti code — in this case, the staff enters the code manually in the system.

Terms of delivery

Items that do not comply with the terms of delivery are not accepted and may be returned to the sender. An item may not comply with the terms of delivery if it is, for example:

  • Too small (minimum size 1 × 15 × 15 cm)

  • Hazardous (such as chemicals or sharp objects that can puncture the package)

  • Non-compliant with the packaging instructions (e.g. a fragile item without adequate protection)

  • Too large – clearly exceeds the dimensions given for the parcel size of your choice
