How do Cash on Delivery parcels work?

Sending a Cash on Delivery parcel is different from sending a normal parcel in that your parcel will not be handed over to the recipient before the recipient has paid Posti the preliminary amount specified by the sender. Posti will transfer the preliminary amount to the sender’s bank account stated by the sender when purchasing the COD parcel. The sender of the COD parcel can withdraw the amount within 2-4 banking days from when the recipient of the parcel has paid for and picked up the parcel. The maximum amount of COD is EUR 2,000. The parcel may not be opened before the COD has been paid.

When using COD, cash does not exchange hands between the seller and the buyer before the parcel has been picked up. If the price of the goods contained in the parcel were paid in advance but the parcel never arrived, the buyer could stand to lose significant amounts of money. Cash on Delivery reduces the risk of a scam for the sender and the recipient of the parcel alike.
