Finnair’s 100th anniversary stamp exudes nostalgia

Founded in 1923, Finnair is one of the oldest operating airlines in the world. Today, it is a network airline with extensive flight connections to Europe, North America and Asia.

Throughout its history, Finnair has served as a gateway to the world for Finns. Posti has played an important role in Finnair’s history, as Finnair’s first flight transported mail from Helsinki to Tallinn.

The 100th anniversary stamp, designed by Ilkka Kärkkäinen, features beautiful movement and the familiar blue and white world of Finnair.

The Finnish Museums Association’s anniversary stamps showcase 10 museums

There are more than 300 professionally run, year-round museums in Finland. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Finnish Museums Association, Posti will release stamps showcasing 10 different museums and objects from their respective collections.

The museums to receive their own stamps are the Ski Museum, Music Museum Fame, the Automobile and Road Museum Mobilia, Leikki – the Museum of Play, Museum Centre Vapriikki, the Police Museum, Turku Museum Centre, the Finnish Glass Museum, the Sámi Museum Siida and the National Museum. The graphic design of the stamps is by Anssi Kähärä.

The Finnish Museums Association represents, educates and develops the Finnish museum field and helps the museums to succeed. The association safeguards the interests of museums and brings Finnish museums to public attention. The association is particularly known for its Museum Card service, which has more than 250,000 active users.

Christoffer Relander combines humans and nature in his photos

Posti granted the stamp art promotion award for 2023 to Åland-based art photographer Christoffer Relander, who is known in Finland and around the world for his multiple exposure photographs that combine human figures and nature. The stamps to be published in September feature two photographs by Relander: Perfume from 2013 and Butterfly Mind II from 2023.

Presented for the seventh time, this was the first time that Posti’s art award celebrated art photography. With its own art award, Posti wants to raise the status of stamps and art and increase people’s appreciation of them.
