Heavy snowfall is spreading to southern Finland on Monday evening December 12. Snow and plowing of the roads also always affect deliveries of parcels, newspapers and daily mail. Snow flurries and strong winds often affect transportation of cargo, and can cause delays and schedule deviations.
"According to the weather forecasts, the situation looks challenging in the coming days. We do everything we can to deliver parcels and mail on time even under these demanding conditions. We understand very well that no plowing equipment will be enough to plow all lanes at the same time. When there is a lot of snow, mail recipients are also not easily able to keep the fronts of mailboxes free of snow. Fortunately, most of our customers understand the situation well, and do a lot to help our staff and make mail deliveries run smoothly. This is a tough job for everyone," says Jarmo Ainasoja from Posti.
There are currently no delays, but according to weather forecasts, problems can be expected especially in road traffic. Due to the snowfall and strong wind, bad or very bad driving weather is expected from Monday evening onwards.
Posti's personnel are on their routes early in the morning, often at the same time as the plowing equipment. Due to the early timing, mail recipients do not always have the time to shovel the fronts of the mailboxes after plowing.
