Finland is moving quickly toward digital communication, and companies and authorities are increasingly sending letters and invoices as digital post. Posti’s OmaPosti app is the most popular channel for sending and receiving digital mail.
Recently, there has been public concern about invoices appearing in OmaPosti without users realizing it. That’s why we want to explain more clearly how digital post works in OmaPosti:
What happens (and doesn’t happen) when you start using OmaPosti
How you can choose your preferred way to receive mail in the settings
Starting to use OmaPosti does not stop paper mail
When you activate OmaPosti, you begin receiving digital copies of the same letters and invoices that are also sent to your home in paper form. The digital copy doesn’t replace the paper letter – it’s an additional service that helps you receive important messages faster. (An exception is payslips: if your employer has chosen to send payslips only digitally, you will receive them only as digital post.)
By default, you receive both versions: everything still as paper mail and, in addition, digital copies from those senders who use digital post. (There are still some senders who do not yet support digital post.)
If you don’t want digital post
If you prefer to receive only paper letters and no digital copies, you can turn off the digital post feature. Here’s how:
Open OmaPosti and select Settings at the bottom of the screen.
Go to Digital post.
Uncheck “I want digital copies of my paper mail in OmaPosti”.
If you only want digital post
If you’re happy receiving your letters and invoices digitally only, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Digital post.
Select Do you want your mail only as digital post whenever possible?
What happens next depends on whether you want to stop receiving paper mail from only certain senders or from all possible senders.
Choose to set digital post as primary for either individual senders or all senders. (“All senders” refers here to all those who use OmaPosti for digital delivery.)
Important: OmaPosti will not stop your paper mail unless you actively choose digital post as your preferred delivery method.
Paid invoice still marked as unpaid?
Messages in the Digital post section of OmaPosti show as unread if not opened and as unpaid if the invoice hasn’t been paid through OmaPosti. If you’ve already paid the invoice in another way – for example, by copying the payment details into your online bank – the system won’t automatically mark it as paid in OmaPosti. You can manually mark it as paid: open the message and select Mark as paid. A great way to avoid unnecessary confusion! You can also manage several messages at once:
Tap the three dots on the Inbox header row.
Tap Select.
Tap Select all or choose individual messages.
Tap Actions.
Then choose whether to Mark as read or Mark as paid.
You are in control of OmaPosti
OmaPosti is designed to make your everyday life easier – and to give you full control over whether you receive mail in digital or paper form. By adjusting your settings, you can make sure the service works exactly the way you want. To stay on top of new letters and invoices, make sure notifications are enabled in your settings. You can allow all notifications or only the ones you want (such as new mail or due date reminders). If you have any questions, our customer service is happy to help – we can go through your settings together and make sure everything works the way you want.
