Posti & Fixably launch a new circular economy solution for e-commerce – Finlayson joins as pilot partner

Used electronics are an underutilized resource in e-commerce, with huge potential for both sustainability and business growth. Now, Posti and Finnish software company Fixably are teaming up to help businesses turn old devices into cash flow and build more responsible online shopping experiences.

Their new solution combines Fixably’s Flip1 payment service with Posti’s logistics and circular economy expertise.

How can an old phone become a payment method?

Flip1 changes the way we think about payments. It allows customers to use an unused device, like a phone or tablet, as part of their payment in an online store. The value of the device is deducted from the price of a new purchase.

For businesses, this opens up new sales opportunities and enhances the customer experience. Flip1 brings trade-in logic into digital commerce, making it easier to buy: customers can swap old for new with just one click.

Posti plays a key role in the process. It handles the entire journey of the device from the customer back into circulation. That includes logistics, device identification, refurbishment, and delivery to a new user. The service is scalable and compatible with existing e-commerce platforms.

“Flip1 makes circular economy a real part of the shopping experience. It’s a practical way to extend product life and reduce electronic waste,” says Elina Gustafsson, Head of Circular Economy at Posti.

“With Flip1, used electronics can become a payment method in almost any online store,” adds Annukka Matilainen, COO at Fixably.

The first pilot is already underway with Finlayson’s online store. The goal is to test the service in practice and gather insights to refine and scale it for broader use.

Posti is also equipped to deliver circular economy services across industries. Whether it’s trade-in programs, Device-as-a-Service (DAAS) models, managing returned products, or repurposing unsold inventory, Posti’s logistics and circular solutions are already supporting companies in electronics, textiles, and furniture—combining sustainability with business value.
