International sanctions

International sanctions

The EU, including Finland, the UN, the United States and other countries can impose restrictions, i.e. sanctions on, for example, items permitted to be sent to certain individuals, entities or countries. The aim of these sanctions is usually to prevent the delivery of certain goods, services, funds or information to particular recipients.

As the sender, it is your duty to ensure that the content of your item is not in violation of any sanctions. If your item is in violation of international sanctions, Posti may impose measures on the item. These measures include disposing of the item. As the sender, you may also be investigated by the competent authorities.

Postal deliveries are not accepted or delivered to the countries below due to international sanctions.

Where can I find more information?

If you are sending mail from Finland, the website of the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs contains useful information, including links to EU and UN publications. The website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs contains information on for example:

  • countries subject to sanctions. These sanctions may include restrictions on the sending of certain types of goods. Before sending to a country subject to sanctions, make sure that its content is not in violation of any sanctions that have been imposed on the country in question.

  • named individuals and entities subject to sanctions. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs maintains lists of named individuals and entities subject to sanctions. Commercial activities with individuals and entities named on a sanctions list are usually prohibited, including sending of funds or goods to the individuals or entities in question. The individuals and entities named on a sanctions list are typically based in countries that are subject to sanctions, or have some type of connection to such countries. However, they may also be based in countries that are not subject to sanctions. The list of named individuals and entities can be found on the Ministry for Foreign Affairs website.

Always check the Ministry website for updated information before sending your item. In addition to the sanctions referred to on this website, your item may also be subject to other sanctions.
