Changes to mandatory shipment information in SmartShip and OmaPosti Pro

8/18/2023

We have required the recipient’s phone number in our parcel services' product terms for a long time, and have also recommended providing their email address. We are now updating these requirements to SmartShip and OmaPosti Pro.

We need contact details to deliver items smoothly and communicate with the recipient during their journey. Going forward, items will not be delivered if they are missing required information.

Phone number is required for most parcel services

From now on, we will require the recipient’s phone number for most parcel services. It is required when you submit information manually through OmaPosti Pro or SmartShip, and when you send EDI messages through the SmartShip API integration. We also require the recipient’s email address for some services.

Changes take place in OmaPosti Pro at the beginning of June, and in the SmartShip UI and API during August-September.

These services will change, with the following information becoming required:

  • Postal Parcel: phone number

  • Small Parcel: phone number

  • EMS: phone number

  • Priority: phone number

  • Postal Parcel Baltics: phone number and email

  • Parcel Connect: phone number and email

  • Postal Parcel Baltics return: phone number

  • Parcel Connect return: phone number

Make sure shipments have the necessary information

If you have an online store, make sure you ask for your customer’s phone number and email address at checkout.

If you use OmaPosti Pro or SmartShip in your browser, please add the recipient’s phone number and email address to your shipment’s information.

If you use the SmartShip integration, please make sure the recipient’s phone number and email address are included in your EDI message.
