In Finland, Valentine’s Day is the second most popular card season immediately after Christmas. Traditional cards reach their recipients efficiently and have a high attention value when compared to digital communications.
This year, Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Monday, February 14. “Friendship can never be celebrated too much. Sending a card to a friend is a warm expression of appreciation of friendship. Finnish Valentine’s Day doesn’t focus only on partners, as is customary elsewhere following the tradition of Valentine’s Day in the United States. We want to remember our friends, godchildren, grandparents and other important people in our lives. This has been highlighted during the pandemic, and the number of Valentine’s Day cards sent last year increased by 8% from the previous year,” says Tuija Åkerman, Consumer Mail Business Unit, Posti.
This year’s Valentine’s Day stamps were illustrated by Leena Kisonen. Her work is characterized by Scandinavian design style, exceptional color combinations and playfulness. “We wanted to have this spirit also in the Valentine’s Day stamp illustrations depicting moments of friendship, joy and sharing. The deliciously colored and cheerful stamps are perfect for Valentine’s Day,” says Åkerman.
Valentine’s Day has been celebrated in Finland since the 1980s. This year, the last mailing date for Valentine’s Day cards is Tuesday, February 8. By adding a Plus Sticker next to the no-value indicator stamp, you can still mail cards on Thursday, February 10, according to the emptying schedules of mailboxes and Posti’s drop-off points.
