This year’s Christmas stamps to depict the adventures of the Moomins

30.10.2026

On Wednesday, 4 November, Posti will publish three Christmas stamps featuring the Moomins. The Moomins’ winter adventures exude warmth, quiet and a special Christmas atmosphere.

Tove Jansson’s beloved Moomin characters have been featured on Finnish stamps many times, but this marks the first time their adventures have landed on Christmas stamps.

The Christmas stamps were inspired by Tove Jansson’s story The Fir Tree, which celebrates its 70th anniversary. In the short story, the Moomins awakened from their winter sleep get to take part in Christmas festivities for the very first time. The Fir Tree short story was published in Jansson’s book Tales from Moominvalley.

“In addition to the Fir Tree short story, we were inspired by the novel Moominland Midwinter, published in 1957, in which Moomintroll awakens from his winter sleep and experiences a snowy winter with all its wonders,” says James Zambra, Creative Director at Moomin Characters.

In the horizontal no-value indicator stamp of the Christmas greeting, Moomintroll, Little My and Too-ticky take in the joys of winter on a snowy slope. Winter in Moominvalley, the no-value indicator stamp for Christmas greetings, will be issued as a 20-stamp sheet.

In the domestic vertical no-value indicator stamp, the Moomin characters are amazed at the glow of a big Christmas tree. The domestic no-value indicator stamp Waiting for Christmas will be issued as a 10-stamp sheet.

The Wondervalley no-value indicator stamp with Moomintroll looking in wonder at a snow-laden fir tree is perfect for international greetings. The international no-value indicator stamp Wondervalley will be issued as a 10-stamp sheet.
