Posti is preparing to bring letters from the authorities to OmaPosti

31.8.2026

Finnish letters from the authorities take a significant step towards a more functional everyday life when the legislation on letters from the authorities delivered to private digital post services enters into force today on September 1, 2026. The reform also makes it possible to receive letters from the authorities in private digital post services such as OmaPosti.

Posti is currently negotiating an agreement with the Digital and Population Data Services Agency to make letters from the authorities available in OmaPosti. Posti’s goal is to offer Finns the opportunity to receive important letters from the authorities in a service that they already use extensively in their everyday life as soon as possible.

"The everyday life of Finns is increasingly more digital, and people expect to be able to manage their important matters easily in one single place. OmaPosti is already a familiar service to many for managing parcels, invoices, letters and other important messages. We want to offer citizens the opportunity to also receive letters from the authorities in the same service," says Kimmo Salakka, Strategy and Development Director at Postal Services.

The legislative reform complements the model for primarily digital official mail introduced in spring 2026, with which adult citizens who are able to use electronic services will primarily receive official mail digitally.

Posti sees the reform as a significant opportunity to improve the customer experience of citizens and promote the digitalization of Finland.

"The strength of OmaPosti is that it combines messages from different senders into one secure service. We want to be part of building a smooth digital society where citizens can receive important messages easily and securely in the channel of their choice," says Elizabeth Kerppola, Posti’s Director of Digital Growth.

Posti will provide more detailed information on the deployment and schedule of the service after the agreements related to the cooperation and the technical implementations have been finalized.

OmaPosti:

  • OmaPosti is a Finnish digital post service provided by Posti where consumers can receive digital mail and track the delivery of parcels.

  • OmaPosti has 2.8 million registered users and it reaches 80 per cent of the working-age population.
