Chargeable weight

The price of freight is determined according to the basis of chargeable weight and transportation distance. The basis for the chargeable weight (kg) of groupage shipments (< 2,500 kg) is

A: Cubic meters (package volume) when

  • the package height is no more than 1.3 meters

  • and the length is no more than 5 meters

  • and there is no stacking prohibition on the package

  • and it has been loaded onto a mechanically handled pallet

  • or the package weight is not more than 35 kg

B: Pallet meters (the space required by the parcel in the transport space) when

  • the package height is over 1.3 meters

  • or the length is over 5 meters

  • or there is a stacking prohibition on the package

  • or it has not been loaded onto a mechanically handled pallet

C: Actual weight (package weight) when

  • the actual weight of the package is greater than its cubic or pallet meter weight

The chargeable weight of items weighing more than 2,500 kg is based on the space required by the item in the cargo space as pallet meters.

The word “package” refers to an individual transport unit, such as a pallet, a parcel or a cage pallet. Each package must be separately equipped with a unique logistics unit label.

If the chargeable weight stated by the sender is found to be inaccurate, Posti shall have the right to check the dimensions of the item and adjust the chargeable weight.

Cubic weight 1 m3 = 333 chargeable weight kg

Pallet-meter weight 1 pallet meter = 1,850 chargeable weight kg

Actual weight 1 kg = 1 chargeable weight kg

Pallet meter Length x width/2.4 m = pallet meter. Refers to the floor-to-ceiling space required by the package in the cargo space.

Examples of the pallet meter weights of transport units:

  • A half pallet 80x60 cm fills 0.2 pallet meters of the cargo space, the chargeable weight is 370 kg

  • A EUR pallet 80x120 cm fills 0.4 pallet meters of the cargo space, the chargeable weight is 740 kg

  • A FIN pallet 100x120 cm fills 0.5 pallet meters of the cargo space, the chargeable weight is 925 kg

  • A rolltainer 68x80 cm fills 0.23 pallet meters of the cargo space, the chargeable weight is 420 kg

  • A display pallet 60x40 cm fills 0.1 pallet meters of the cargo space, the chargeable weight is 185 kg
