Letters and postcards

Add the address information and stamp according to instructions and label the letters and postcards the slips that indicate the desired delivery speed. The slips are available at Posti outlets. Alternatively, you can write the word “Priority” or “Economy” on the letter or postcard to indicate the delivery speed. Items can be dropped off in a mailbox or a Posti service point.

With or without an envelope?

Mail self-made cards in an envelope. The price is the same as for mailing a postcard without an envelope. This way none of the decorations will come off and the postcard will remain intact. It is best not to mail a sheet of paper that has simply been folded in two and then sealed with tape or staples. Put such items in an envelope, too.

Posti and other stores offer a selection of postcards cut into wonderful shapes. It is best to mail these in envelopes, too. When postcards are machine-processed, different extensions (e.g. the tail in a cat-shaped card) may get caught or bent or otherwise damaged.

Express Letter

Attach an Exprès bar code label and an Exprès label to the item. These are available at Posti outlets. You can also try the handy prepaid Exprès envelopes. Express letters are mailed at a Posti outlet. They must not be dropped off in a mailbox.

In international traffic, please use an address label for a domestic Registered Letter, which includes a tracking bar code identifying the item, or item ID. Please remove the domestic notice of arrival from the address label. The address labels are available from Posti outlets. Registered letters are mailed at a Posti outlet. Prohibitions and restrictions specific to the destination country, including the tracking option, can be checked from the country information. Insured items

The labeling and sealing of the cover must comply with international postal regulations. An Insured Letter must further be furnished with a specific bar code label used in international traffic.

The item should be placed in a strong envelope or resilient plastic letter bag. The use of transparent parcels and window envelopes is not allowed. Box-shaped items must be coated with strong, light-colored paper, either a single sheet or another method that involves sealing. If an inner box is required for the content of the shipment, the box should be sturdy and made of wood, metal or plastic. Add the sender and recipient information on the coating of the item. Posti will add an insured bar code label on the item and seal any seams with sealing tape. The items must be mailed at a Posti service point. They must not be dropped off in a mailbox.
