Posti has investigated the use of mailboxes in Southwest Finland. Some mailboxes will be removed due to their low usage and some from locations where there is currently a large number of them. In addition, 39 mailboxes will be emptied 1–2 hours earlier than at present. The changes will be implemented in May.
The mailbox network is being modified to meet customers’ current needs. 124 mailboxes will be removed from Southwest Finland. Removals will be carried out in both urban and sparsely populated areas. After the change, an extensive network of 378 mailboxes will remain in Southwest Finland. In sparsely populated areas, customers can also use Posti’s pickup sign service.
Notices will be affixed to the mailboxes that will be taken out of use. Information is also available from Posti Customer Service and the mailbox search on Posti’s website.
Posti has a total of just under 4,200 mailboxes located around Finland. Deliverers and drivers collect postal items from the boxes during delivery and pickup rounds. The emptying of mailboxes is carried out as cost-effectively as possible and, at the same time, in an environmentally friendly way during the delivery and pickup rounds. The usage rate of mailboxes is regularly monitored, and boxes are removed and moved to new customer locations if they are in low usage.
