The unlawful strikes by the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU ended late Tuesday night. Some of the personnel returned to work at Posti's sorting locations in Vantaa, Lieto, Seinäjoki, Jyväskylä, Lahti, Lappeenranta, Kuopio, Tampere and Oulu. During the strike days, Posti's exceptional arrangements worked well in preventing sorting from overflowing.
"Last night, operations have begun to return to normal in sorting. According to the current estimate, we will be able to end the exceptional arrangements by the end of the week. We are pleased to have been able to complete most of our customers' deliveries within the time promised despite the exceptional circumstances. We will do everything we can to avoid delays and any harm to our customers. The status of today's deliveries will become clearer to us by the evening," says Jarmo Ainasoja, Head of Control Center at Posti.
The exceptional arrangements may cause some items to display tracking information that does not reflect the fact that their delivery is on schedule.
According to the current estimate, a small number of parcels, letters and publications may be delayed.
"The various products have different service schedules that have been agreed upon with the sending customer. We sort, transport and deliver the items to their recipients in accordance with this schedule. For instance, one product may be scheduled for delivery on a certain day while other products have a delivery window of several days, which means we handle and deliver them during a course of several days. Because of the exceptional circumstances, we may have more items than normal in our delivery offices, which may cause local and short-term delays in delivery concerning certain items," says Jarmo Ainasoja.
The strikes have not affected newspaper early-morning delivery or the functioning of the Posti outlets. Freight or warehousing services have not been affected by the industrial action.
The next update on the situation will be published on Wednesday, September 4, at approximately 4:30 p.m.
