It has been possible to declare some items arriving from outside the EU through the OmaPosti app. In the future, all items will be declared on the Customs website when the item has arrived in Finland. Customs clearance in OmaPosti will end on August 30, 2024.
If you have already been declaring your items in Customs’ service, this change will not impact you.
As an OmaPosti user, you have been able to use the app to declare online orders valued €150 or less with unpaid value-added tax. International online stores will often charge value-added tax already with the purchase, which is why the use of OmaPosti’s customs clearance has remained low. Because you can always declare items through Customs, there is also no need for an overlapping service.
Posti will continue to declare some items for you
All items arriving from outside the EU need to be cleared through customs. At a minimum, customs clearance may mean that you inform Tulli of the content of the shipment. Customs clearance may also involve duties, like value-added tax, customs duty, and excise duty.
We will continue to declare most purchases valued €150 or less with paid value-added tax (so-called IOSS items) on your behalf. In these cases, we send the item information directly to Tulli and its journey will not pause for customs clearance. You don’t have to do or pay anything.
If we do not receive all information required for customs clearance from the online store, you will need to do customs clearance yourself on tulli.fi. You will be notified of this when your item arrives in Finland.
You can read more about customs clearance on Posti’s website and Customs’ website.
