Prohibited and dangerous goods

As a private customer, you cannot send dangerous goods through Posti.

Did you know that even ordinary cosmetics, such as nail polish, are classified as dangerous substances? Many other everyday products, like hairspray or cleaning products, may also contain substances that require special arrangements for transportation.

If you have a contract with Posti, you can send dangerous goods safely and in accordance with laws in Finland and our instructions. If an item contains dangerous goods or otherwise prohibited goods, make a separate agreement with Posti on the item. An appropriate transport service will be selected for the item.

What is meant by dangerous goods?

Dangerous goods are substances and objects that can cause damage to people, property or the environment. This can be due to, for example, their explosiveness, inflammability or radiation sensitivity, toxicity or corrosiveness.

The transport of such goods is governed by international regulations and Finnish law. In Finland, dangerous goods are transported by Posti’s freight services as TDG parcels or LQ-packed parcels.

Country-specific restrictions

Different countries may have their own rules for items. Check country-specific prohibitions and restrictions easily in the country-specific information before sending.

Please note that Posti does not transport any items that violate the law or the terms and conditions. Therefore, please check all the instructions before sending an item so that the service is not interrupted. As the sender, you are also liable for any resulting expenses or losses, such as extra handling fees.

Airlines may restrict the contents of items on flights for security reasons, e.g. combination of battery-powered electric/electronic items with Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) may not be included in the same shipment.
