Handling fee for items requiring customs clearance

The fee only applies to goods that arrive from outside the EU or from special areas of the EU’s Excise Duty and Value-Added Taxation Area and require customs clearance. The handling fee must be paid within 20 days of the item’s arrival.

Payment and amount

The handling fee amounts to EUR 2.90 (VAT 0%) per item. The fee is a one-time fee for an item that has arrived in Finland and been directed to customs clearance. The fee can be paid using the bank or credit cards stated in the service. Starting from 15th of March 2020, the handling fee must be included in the transport and handling costs section of the customs declaration. An item ID for which a handling fee has been paid cannot be changed afterwards (e.g. correcting a misspelling). Payer is responsible for spelling the item id correctly. Unpaid or unclaimed items shall be returned to their sender. The handling fee is not refunded.

Release of the item

The item is not released for transport until the item has been released from both the handling fee and the customs clearance. If the handling fee is not paid, Posti shall have the right to return the item to its sender. In the event that a recipient expressly refuses to accept an item, the item is returned to the sender immediately, without a storage period.
