The shipments may be transported as letters, reply mail and parcels. Posti requires a yellow/black-striped box to be used as outer packaging The Shipper is responsible for correct classification, packing and marking of the shipment.
Only samples that are highly unlikely to contain pathogens and that are classified under the UN code UN 3373 can be transported outside a separately agreed TDG/ADR shipment. If a laboratory sample contains dry ice, the TDG/ADR service must be used.
The TDG/ADR service is only available for business customers and it is subject to a TDG contract.
Attach the address label on the parcel. Due to their contents, laboratory samples are always items that require special handling. Attach Posti's approved "fragile" labels on the item and mark the Special Handling additional service on the address label.
Parcels sent on Friday are delivered to the recipient on Saturday only if the Saturday delivery option has been checked on the address label.
You can drop items off for delivery using our Pick-up and Delivery Service or by delivering them to a Postal outlet. Items must not be dropped off in a mailbox or sent via the Pricing Service. We deliver parcels in accordance with the service level of the selected service.
The item can be paid in cash or with a card in the Postal Shop, or with a franking machine or using the Port Payé method.
Many recipient laboratories have a reply mail contract. Clarify this with the receiving laboratory. The delivery time of reply mail items is usually two working days.
Some laboratories accept samples as Express Reply items. Attach the Express Reply bar code sticker on the item. Express Reply items are usually delivered in one working day, but this cannot be guaranteed with longer distances.
Laboratory samples may not be mailed through the Pricing Service.
Dropping items off at a postal outlet on weekdays
Deliver the samples to a Postal outlet or shop or book a pick-up for them.
Note! Do not leave laboratory samples in a mailbox, as they may freeze or overheat.
If the delivery is urgent and you want to be certain it reaches its destination on the following day, use the Express additional service. Attach the Express Letter label on the item (Exprès bar code label).
A laboratory sample sent as a reply mail item cannot be delivered quicker using the Express supplementary service unless the receiving laboratory has an agreement for an overnight reply mail item. The laboratory has an Express Reply agreement if the second digit of the postal code is 1 and the final digit is 6. Read about How to send laboratory samples as Express Reply Mail.
Note! Samples marked with the UN 3373 code that contain dry ice are not suitable for air mail, and thus they may not be sent abroad. In domestic transportation, we cannot guarantee the level of the service for long distances.
You can track the item's delivery on the Item Tracking website using the tracking code attached to the item.
