For centuries, a constant stream of citizens has passed through the gates of Copenhagen’s venerable old post yard in Købmagergade, still the busiest post office in the country. Until recently, the general public had little reason to visit the neighbouring property behind the grey-plaster facade at number 37. On October 1998, however, the doors were thrown open to a new museum recalling 400 years of communications in Denmark. The old State Telegraph Service headquarters building from 1923 now houses exhibitions, public workshops, a conference hall, a shop, and a roof-top café: a total of three thousand square metres of museum spread over five floors.
