The Post Museum in Oslo
|
Since it was opened in 1947, the Post Museum in Oslo has been developed into a national museum for post and philately. The Museum holds special exhibitions, in addition to the permanent one. It addresses all age groups and guided tours can be arranged. Visitors with a particular interest in philately will find a permanent stamp exhibition here and a sales counter where they can purchase stamps and collector's items. The Museum has its own library containing about 15,000 volumes on Norwegian postal history and philately.
Norway Post has played a significant role in social, commercial and industrial development in Norway for more than 350 years. Some of the highlights of these developments have been recreated in the Museum where historical tableaux, photographs, sound effects and digital aids are used to show examples of the functions of postal employees. Information about the exhibits has been translated into English and German.
The Post Museum has its own stamp shop, forming an important link between everyone who is interested in stamps and Norway Post's Philatelic Service. A variety of collector's items is also available here.
