Letters to Santa Claus
Who gets the most letters in the world? Santa Claus of course!
Around Christmas 2001, Santa received 700,000 items by mail - letters, cards and parcels. So far, the elves have found 184 countries from which Santa has received a total of nearly eight million items in the past 20 years.
The most enthusiastic writers are Japanese, British and Polish, but Santa Claus has also been getting letters in recent years from China, South Korea, Argentina and many, many other unexpected places around the world.
In their letters, children and the young at heart tell about their news or ask about Santa Claus’ life in Finnish Lapland, and there is a lot of interest in what Rudolph and the other reindeer get up to.
Santa Claus is also asked for advice about all kinds of problems. And of course, there are plenty of lists of presents. The fireside room at Santa Claus’ Main Post Office has a small exhibition of the letters and other things he has been sent. You can see it when you come to visit.
