Mailbox grouping

Mailbox grouping was commenced already in the 1970s and Posti implements the grouping an area at a time. Currently, about 80% of Finland has been grouped. Mail delivery is a labour-intensive sector where delivery costs per delivered item increasingly rise as a result of higher delivery expenses and fewer items to deliver.
Why grouping
To restrain the cost growth, it is essential to position mailboxes in groups. The right to position mailboxes in groups has also been confirmed by many decisions made by administrative courts. This means that the prevailing method of delivery in one-family house areas is to deliver mail to mailboxes positioned at a reasonable distance from the address locations.
