Finnish Stamp Themes for March 2010 include Funny Vegetables, Prominent Women, Easter, Rustic Romance, and the Marine City of Kotka

01.03.2010

The spring 2010 stamps feature fun activity, prominent Finnish women, Easter atmosphere, rustic romance, and a marine theme. The second stamp lot of the year will be issued on March 8, and the Marine Scandinavia miniature sheet will be issued separately on March 24.

Give a Cucumber Ears

A stamp booklet issued in March features a fun do-it-yourself activity. In the Funny Vegetables stamp booklet, you can put a moustache on a tomato, a hat on broccoli, or give a cucumber ears. The stamps have been designed by Nina Rintala, and the booklet comes with a kit that lets you modify the vegetable-themed stamps as you like.

Prominent Finnish Women Get Their Own Stamps

A booklet of prominent Finnish women will be issued in March. The six women included featured on the stamps have succeeded through great individual efforts. The figures appearing on the stamps will be announced on the issue date of the stamps, March 8, which also is International Women's Day.

Rings and Bunnies for Easter

Two very different stamps will be available for Easter greetings. Kirsti Doukas takes a modern approach to the My Easter series launched a few years back. Her unique Easter-egg-shaped rings will be featured on a stamp. Kirsti Doukas, Main Designer for Kalevala Jewelry, has designed the rings exclusively for the stamp.

Osmo "Omppu" Omenamäki, known by his cards, has also designed an Easter-themed stamp - his is the Easter Twins stamp.

Rustic Romance

A stamp booklet filled with images of Finnish rustic romance includes huge wild strawberries, a tractor and a farmer, and someone playing the accordion at a dance. Designed by Emil Bertell, this summery booklet has five different stamps.

Kotka's Kantasatama Harbor in a Miniature Booklet

A miniature booklet in the Marine Scandinavia series will be issued separately on March 24. Two stamps by Klaus Welp depict the award-winning Maritime Center Vellamo, the Finnish Wooden Boat Center, and the Tarmo Museum Ship in the Kantasatama Harbor in Kotka. The release of the miniature sheet will take place in Vellamo in Kotka. The second stamp in the sheet shares the theme with a stamp clock and message-in-a-bottle, which will be released at the same time.
