Indications and Codes
Valuable items must carry an address label for the selected service, including a tracking barcode identifying the item (item ID).
The address labels can be obtained either by printing them with the address label printing software (Prinetti) or the customer's own printing software or by using the multi-section address labels below that can be ordered at Posti's website:
An Insured Item with fragile content must be furnished with Posti's own "Helposti särkyvä" (Fragile) label, available at Posti outlets. The markings on factory packages are not enough.
Valuable items are dropped off at a postal outlet, a postal center or a terminal or picked up with the pick-up service (subject to a charge). See the more detailed Mailing instructions for valuable items.
When using Prinetti or the EDI service, an Electronic Notice of Arrival (an SMS or an iPost letter) can be selected by the sender.
Track & Trace
You can track the item with the item ID through the Item Tracking.
Information about the arrival of the item at the recipient's nearest postal outlet is provided with an electronic or paper notice of arrival.
The item is handed over to the recipient or a person authorized by the recipient in exchange for a signature. If the right to sign has been restricted with an additional service, the item will only be handed over to the person indicated as the recipient.
Valuable items addressed to companies and organizations may only be handed over to a person who is authorized to sign for the company/organization or is otherwise authorized to receive the item.
Pricing is based on the weight of the item and the additional services used.
With Port Payé invoicing, franking machine and Pricing Service.
Items that have not been handed over will be stored at the postal outlet for two full calendar weeks in addition to the week of arrival. After this, the item will be returned to the sender. The notice of arrival shows the last pick-up date.
Forwarding from outlet to outlet will not extend the combined storage period at different outlets.
Restrictions as to Content
Cash or valuables may not be sent in a Registered Letter or a Letter with Advice of Delivery.
Posti assumes responsibility for cash, securities or other valuables only if they are sent as Insured Items.
Cash on Delivery
With cash on delivery, you can ensure that you receive payment for the item in your account before it is handed over to the recipient. You can add the cash on delivery service to Priority and Economy letters, Maxi letters and Insured Items.
We are responsible for forwarding the cash on delivery amount you have specified to a Finnish bank account within 2 to 4 banking days from the payment. The maximum cash on delivery amount is EUR 8,400.
For a payment with a bank reference, the reference number is transmitted to the recipient of the payment; for a payment without a reference number, the payer's name is transmitted. IBAN account numbers and bank-identifying BIC codes, complying with the SEPA regulations, are used for cash on delivery shipments. If the account or reference information is incorrect, we accept no responsibility for delays or losses.
There is a separate address label for cash on delivery shipments. You can add an electronic notice of arrival to a cash on delivery letter.
Handing over to the addressee in person
You may limit the right of receipt confirmation so that the letter is only handed over to the addressee in person.
Notice of arrival (EDI)
Electronic notices of arrival allow you to offer your customer improved service, have your items reach their destinations more swiftly and reduce the number of items that are not collected.
The electronic notice of arrival is available for contract customers free of charge. It can be used for domestic registered letters as well as cash on delivery letters, letter with advice of delivery and insured items. You submit advance information of the items left for delivery as an EDI message. Your customer will receive a notice of arrival based on the message.
Electronic notices of arrival primarily come in the form of SMSs and e-mails. If an SMS cannot reach the recipient, the notice of arrival will be sent as a letter or as an electronic letter to Netposti. A reminder message (subject to a charge) is also available. It requires the use of the electronic notice of arrival.
If you have the online or desktop version of Prinetti, you can activate the electronic notice of arrival by selecting it in the sender-specific settings. For activating the use of EDI messages, please contact Posti Customer Service or your contact person.
