Sending valuable items abroad
Valuable items, that is: Registered Letter, Letter with Advice of Delivery and Insured Item (service will end on the 1st of January 2016), are suitable for sending both important documents and small valuables. You can benefit from Item Tracking, a receipt of mailing and the verification of the recipient's identity when the item is handed over.

Indications and Codes
A Registered Letter is furnished with the address label for a domestic registered letter.
The address label can also be printed with the Prinetti address label printing software.
An Insured Item is furnished with the Insured bar code label.
A Letter with Advice of Delivery is furnished with the international advice of delivery form (CN 07), in addition to the address label for a Registered Letter or the bar code label for an Insured Letter.
In the upper left-hand corner of the address side, under the sender details, the indication "Avis de réception" or "A.R." should be marked. The address label for a Letter with Advice of Delivery can also be printed with the Prinetti software.
When sending letters containing goods to the EU Member States, no separate customs declaration is needed.
When sending items containing goods to destinations outside the EU and special regions outside the EU excise and value added tax region, the small customs declaration (CN 22) is used.
If the value of the item exceeds EUR 300, the required number of large customs declarations (CN 23) filled in a language understood in the destination country should be included with the item.

Valuable items are dropped off at a postal outlet, a postal center or a terminal or picked up with the pick-up service (subject to a charge). For more information, see Mailing instructions for valuable items.
Special requirements for sending an Insured Item
The rules of international postal traffic provide instructions for packing the item:
- The item should be packed tightly in a durable package (e.g. a wooden, metal or plastic box) which is wrapped in white wrapping paper.
- Seal the item across all seams in such a way that the item cannot be opened without leaving obvious signs.
The item may be furnished only with labels and stickers pertaining to postal and customs formalities.

Restrictions as to Content
Cash or valuables may not be sent in a Registered Letter or a Letter with Advice of Delivery. Posti assumes responsibility for cash, securities or other valuables only if they are sent as Insured Items.
